There is a lot going on in this song that
is behind the scenes. From Evans liner notes
for Take Two TT408CD, 1993, he says, "Happy Days
are Here again" recorded on February
11, 1930, is one of those... curiosities bred
out of Annette's desire to get it right...Unfortunately,
Annette's voice cracks on the word 'here' in
the second half of the chorus. She claimed
to have marched up to Ben Selvin during the recording
signaling him that she wanted
a retake. As it was already take 3 he said
'no'. The result was, she walked out while
the recording was still in progress. (personal
correspondence from John Woodruff)
Altogether shout it now
There's no one who can doubt it now
so let's tell the world about it now
Happy days are here again,
Your cares and troubles are gone
They're be no more from now on
Happy days are here again,
the skies above are clear again
let us sing a song of cheer again
Happy days are here again,
So long sad time, so long bad time
we are rid of you at last
Howdy gay times, cloudy gray times
you are now a thing of the past
Happy days are here again,
the skies above are clear again
let us sing a song of cheer again
Happy days are here again,
Altogether shout it now
There's no one who can doubt it now
so let's tell the world about it now
Happy days are here again,
Your cares and troubles are gone
They're be no more from now on
Happy days are here again,
the skies above are clear again
let us sing a song of cheer again
Happy days are here again,
Happy days are here again,
the skies above are clear again
let us sing a song of cheer again
Happy days are here again
